Simplex Space-Time Meshes in Finite Element Simulations

چکیده
A straightforward method for generating simplex space-time meshes is presented, allowing arbitrary temporal refinement in selected portions of space-time slabs. The method increases the flexibility of space-time discretizations, even in the absence of dedicated space-time mesh generation tools. The resulting tetrahedral (for 2D problems) and pentatope (for 3D problems) meshes are tested in the context of advection-diffusion equation, and are shown to provide reasonable solutions, while enabling varying time refinement in portions of the domain. OPTIMAL DECOMPOSITION OF FINITE ELEMENT MESHES VIA K-MEDIAN METHODOLOGY AND DIFFERENT METAHEURISTICS
In this paper the performance of four well-known metaheuristics consisting of Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Biogeographic Based Optimization (BBO), Harmony Search (HS) and Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) are investigated on optimal domain decomposition for parallel computing. A clique graph is used for transforming the connectivity of a finite element model (FEM) into that of the cor...
متن کاملFinite Element Error Estimates for Critical Growth Semilinear Problems without Angle Conditions
In this article we consider a priori error and pointwise estimates for finite element approximations of solutions to semilinear elliptic boundary value problems in d > 2 space dimensions, with nonlinearities satisfying critical growth conditions. It is well-understood how mesh geometry impacts finite element interpolant quality, and leads to the reasonable notion of shape regular simplex meshes...
متن کاملGenerating Admissible Space-Time Meshes for Moving Domains in d + 1-Dimensions
In this paper we present a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for the solution of the transient Stokes equations on moving domains. For the discretization we use an interior penalty Galerkin approach in space, and an upwind technique in time. The method is based on a decomposition of the space-time cylinder into finite elements. Our focus lies on threedimensional moving geometries, th...
متن کاملHULK - Simple and fast generation of structured hexahedral meshes for improved subsurface simulations
Short for Hexahedra from Unique Location in (K)convex Polyhedra – HULK is a simple and efficient algorithm to generate hexahedral meshes from generic STL files describing a geological model to be used in simulation tools based on the finite difference, finite volume or finite element methods. Using binary space partitioning of the input geometry and octree refinement on the grid, a successive i...
